NAUGATUCK— A 39-year-old woman was charged with risk of injury on Wednesday after swinging her 1-year-old child by the feet like a baseball bat, police said.

Aurora Houghtaling was in possession of Ritalin when police responded to South Main Street on Wednesday evening, and told officers that she had snorted it, police said.

The child was uninjured, but was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center as a precaution, police said.

Houghtaling was taken to Hartford Hospital for an evaluation. She resisted when officers tried to take the child from her and was making irrational comments, according to police.

Houghtaling is charged with risk of injury to a minor, interfering with a police officer and use of drug paraphernalia, police said. According to court records she is also facing charges of disorderly conduct and failure to appear from a separate incident.
