One more mild day is on tap for Tuesday but colder air will be on its way tonight, the rest of the week and into the weekend with our first widespread frost likely by Friday.

Highs today will be in the 60s before the cold front moves through the region later this afternoon. Expect increasing clouds as the day wears on but we’ll stay mostly dry with maybe a sprinkle or a light shower.

A potential storm will miss the state tomorrow, moving further south and east. Instead Wednesday will bring a chilly air mass with plenty of sunshine through the weekend with some wind and fair weather puffy clouds.

Most towns will experience their first frost by Friday and Saturday morning if the wind diminishes. Remember, you can only get frost if there is no wind as a wind overnight will keep temperatures from falling too much and prevent the coalescing of water droplets on surfaces such as blades of grass.

Temperatures during this cold stretch will average a good 5 to 7 degrees below normal with highs in the 40s and 50s and lows in the 30s with some areas in the 20s. No big storms are in sight at this point.
