WATERBURY — Police have obtained an arrest warrant charging Philip Grundy, 39, with fatally stabbing a man Monday evening and wounding another.

Police were called to the area of 23 James St. about 6 p.m. for a report of a fight in the street. Police said they determined that Grundy was involved in a fight with two men. Police said he stabbed one in the lower back and the second in the chest. The man with the chest wound was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Hospital.

The warrant charges Grundy with murder and first-degree assault.

Police said they think the fight was related to an earlier dispute between Grundy’s girlfriend and the girlfriend of one of the victims.

Grundy fled and police are trying to find him. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police at 203-574-6920.
