There is always some mystery surrounding Halloween, but lawmakers want there to be no mystery about this.

Monday, at the legislative office building, state representatives and the Coalition For A Safe And Healthy Connecticut joined parents and kids to support legislation protecting children from toxins in Halloween costumes.

Much like testing for toys, the group wants action on what, if any, dangers exist in kids costumes.

Representative Diana Urban (D- North Stonington) lead the discussion. She wants the state to take the lead in making Halloween costumes more green-friendly.

“The whole point of this is to push the market towards green chemistry,” Urban said, “if we unleash that spirit of research and development we’ll be able to actually have safe chemicals out there.”

After the event,  the group, about 20 strong,  walked their way to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office and dropped off letters of concern, urging more action on costume safety and detailed labeling.
