The Philippine American Association of Connecticut (click here to visit their Facebook page) is asking for people to donate items to help victims from the powerful typhoon that devastated the island nation.

They are looking for slightly used summer clothes, non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products,
light blankets, flip-flops and monetary donations.

Cecilia Rogayan is president of the Association. She has family members in the Philippines who are doing well; however, other members of the group are still trying to get a hold of loved ones who were in the devastated area.

Rogayan said her faith in God is helping her through this just as much as her heritage.
“The Filipinos are pliant like a bamboo,” she said. “We sway when the wind is strong and we stand
up on our own.”

In the basement of her Hamden home boxes are starting to get full as people donate, but they are looking
for more.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, there will be a donation drop-off at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06518, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For monetary donations, make checks payable to PAAC, Inc. and please note on the memo Yolanda PHL.
Mail it to Cecilia Q. Rogayan 10 Read Rd, Hamden, CT, 06518-2466.
