Michael Thomas, owner of a Subway franchise in West Haven, has made it his mission to hire other veterans for jobs at his store. Thomas served in the Navy for more than a decade.
After his career in the military, Thomas took a job with Sen. Richard Blumenthal. There he learned how dire the situation for veterans is, especially with finding employment.
The job with Blumenthal led him to a man who worked at Subway and was hoping the brand could launch a veteran-focused training model. Thomas soon was the first Subway location to start a veteran training program with help from the Small Business Administration’s Patriot Express program.
