Protesters braved today’s cold to send a clear message to Wal-Mart and its consumers.

“When we spend our money on food for Thanksgiving, on Black Friday when we go shopping, we should demand better from the retailers that we’re purchasing from,” Keri Hoehne said.

They’re part of the union representing grocery workers and other shop employees that say during this holiday season, Wal-Wart is a real Grinch.

“Communities like Bristol need to have more responsible employers. When a Wal-Mart comes into a community and might not pay enough, might not have insurance, retirement security, you then have to rely on public assistance in various forms,” Hoehne said.

Wal-Mart has been in the news recently, not only for low prices, but also for stories of workers organizing food and donation bins.

Some workers in other states also filed a complaint against the retail chain with the National Labor Relations Board saying they were unfairly terminated after speaking out.

Meanwhile, shoppers at this Wal-Mart in Bristol didn’t seem very sympathetic.

“I just think that in this day and age people need to be happy that there’s something and that they’re bringing in some sort of money,” Sandy Ingriselli of Bristol said.
