WINCHESTER — Police have arrested a Canaan woman who they said stabbed her boyfriend in the chest Monday, leaving him in critical condition.

Amanda Benson of Deely Road was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace after the attack, police said. She was in custody early Tuesday on $50,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Bantam later in the day.

Police said the stabbing happened about 5:40 p.m., after the two “were involved in a domestic incident.” The 36-year-old boyfriend, whose name was not released, was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington and airlifted to Hartford Hospital.
