DARIEN — A 7-year-old girl found a rusty nail inside a chocolate chip cookie purchased last week at a Panera Bread at 1061 Post Road, police said.

Police are investigating whether the Nov. 25 was an anomaly or an intentional act.

Police said a mother and her children bought some food at Panera and brought it home. The girl felt something hard when she bit her cookie and showed her mother who discovered it was a rusty nail, police said.

The girl was not injured. Police say Panera does not make the cookie dough on premises and the dough is brought in by a third party vendor.
