HAMDEN — A 44-year-old man who allegedly stole sushi at a Shop Rite and fought with a security officer has been arrested.

Michael Zabivinik, of Bridgeport, turned himself in to police Tuesday. He is charged with third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny.

The officer approached Zabivinik on Nov. 12 after seeing him walking in the store aisles while eating boxes of sushi, police said. Zabivinik fought the officer, took the officer’s radio and fled in a white truck, police said.

Police released surveillance images from the store to the media and, within hours, were contacted by someone who identified the suspect as Zabivinik, police said.
