Aside from a few minor accidents, the morning commute went relatively smoothly on Tuesday as snow began to spread across Connecticut.

Between 2 and 4 inches of light and fluffy snow are expected on Tuesday, said FOX CT Meteorologist Rachel Frank. Snow was falling throughout central Connecticut before 9 a.m., and 83 accidents — eight with minor injuries — had been reported on state roads by 11:30 a.m., according to the state police.

And forecasters are saying that the state should brace for significantly colder weather later in the week, possibly followed by a weekend snowstorm.

School districts across the state closed for the day. Click here for a full list.

The snow should continue through the day, ending before the evening commute around 3 p.m., Frank said.

“This is all snow — no ice, no sleet like we had [Monday],” she said.

The snow will be followed by arctic cold moving in mid-week. On Thursday, temperatures in some towns may not move out of the teens.

Another storm could take place this weekend, but it is too soon to tell what to expect, Frank said.

“It could be all snow,” she said.

The storm could start on Saturday and could last into Sunday, she said.
