Protesters hit the streets of New Haven following the death of a Yale assistant professor.

More than twenty protesters marched from City Hall to Yale to police headquarters demanding answers about Sam See. See, 34, died in lockup after police arrested him during a domestic dispute with a man claiming to be his husband. Police did not report See’s death until several days later.

Chief Dean Esserman has already apologized for the delay and has claimed that he has launched investigations.  Protesters on the steps of headquarters sent a message that they can’t trust police to police themselves.

“If we’re going to have any truth in cases like this, in this particular case, there’s has to be some civilian oversight,” Nathan Brown, a protest organizer, said.

The State Medical Examiner has already ruled out trauma as the cause of Sam See’s death. A full autopsy report is now waiting for toxicology test results.
