For the fourth year, CONNetic Dance is performing its original and fun production of The Nutcracker: “Nutcracker Suite and Spicy.”
Directed and choreographed by company director Carolyn Paine at the Aetna Theatre at the Wadsworth Atheneum, “Nutcracker Suite and Spicy” is a totally different kind of Nutcracker, featuring the company’s signature style of fusion of athletic dance forms including tap, jazz, and hip hop and seasoned with their signature sense of humor the production.
It starts out with an ugly Christmas sweater party scene, has a breakdancing doll brought by suave Drosselmeyer, an athletic and dizzying “snow ball” snow scene with acrobatic dancing using pearly white exercise balls, and then in Act II, the audience meets our sexy hip hop Sugar Rum and our signature Florettes: a high kicking waltz of the flowers inspired by the Rockettes as well as this year’s new character, the Club Rat battling with the Nutcracker in the Club of Sweet Temptations in Act II. It is all set to a fun compilation of diverse music inspired by Tchaikovsky’s classic score.
The show runs at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford from Dec. 20 through Dec. 22. For more information, visit www.CONNeticDance.com.
