EAST HADDAM — A home on Mount Parnassus Road was destroyed by fire early Monday, fire officials said.
The fire at the vacant home was reported by a passerby at 2:45 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames shooting out of the windows and through the roof.
Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside and it took about a half hour to get the flames under control, fire officials said.
Nobody was injured in the blaze, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but officials said squatters may have been living in the home and could have started the fire. The local fire marshal is on scene and the state fire marshal has also been called in to investigate.
About a half dozen towns helped fight the fire, fire officials said.
