Installation Mass Today For Hartford’s New Archbishop

New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Boston Cardinal Sean O’Malley are among the dignitaries expected to attend Monday’s installation Mass of Leonard P. Blair as the fifth archbishop of the Archdiocese of Hartford.

The Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph on Farmington Avenue in Hartford. The archdiocese says it expects 2,000 people to attend.

The Vatican announced Blair’s appointment Oct. 29. He succeeds Archbishop Henry J. Mansell, who, at 76, is past the standard retirement age for bishops.

Blair, 64, a Detroit native, had been bishop of the Diocese of Toledo, Ohio, since 2003.

The Mass will be broadcast live on Fox CT (WTIC-TV) and WCCT-TV beginning at 2 p.m., and streamed live on and It will also be broadcast on WJMJ-FM, the archdiocesan radio station.
