Sen. Richard Blumenthal Fights Energy Drink Marketing To Kids

Certain toys, which appear to be harmless, send a dangerous message, according to Sen. Richard Blumenthal.

Sen. Blumenthal displayed a pair of toys at a press conference: a remote controlled helicopter as well as a remote controlled boat. The helicopter was covered with the Red Bull logo, while the boat prominently displayed the Rockstar trademark.

Sen. Blumenthal argued the toys are another ploy to market dangerous energy drinks to kids.

“They’re the ones who agree to license their trademarks, and as recently as this morning, we asked them explicitly would they restrict the use of their trademarks, they said they would not, we asked Red Bull that question,” Sen. Blumenthal said.

Sen. Blumenthal said the energy drink companies have promised to meet with him and other members of Congress’ Commerce Committee to address concerns about the toys.

Our calls and emails to the companies were not returned.
