A weak warm front has transported clouds and milder temperatures this morning, up 10 degrees from yesterday morning. High pressure moving off the southeast coast will create a southwest flow that will usher in the milder air today under a mix of sun and clouds. High temperatures will top out near 40 degrees this afternoon.

Today will be the first day since Dec. 6 that temperatures will reach or exceed 40 degrees. Temperatures will continue their upward trend tomorrow and through the weekend as highs will reach near 45 tomorrow, near 50 on Saturday and, believe it or not, near 60 on Sunday with some rain.

A big upper level ridge of high pressure off the southeast coast will intensify and move a bit north,  pushing the jet stream north and west of Connecticut, which will move the storm track further north and west through the weekend.  There will a be a cold front that will try to push south over the weekend but indications are that by Saturday the front will stall and become stationary across central New England with mild temperatures to the south and colder temperatures to the north.

A series of low pressure systems will move along that front with on-and-off showers for Connecticut while central and northern New England will have the steady and heavy cold rain and ice as temperatures will be hovering around freezing. Meanwhile, we will have mild temperatures and some rain showers. A deeper, stronger storm will move out of the Gulf of Mexico and track into the Ohio Valley through central New York and northern New England by Sunday. Temperatures could get very close to 60 degrees with rain showers and fog which will wipe out our snow cover and thus our chances for a white Christmas are slim next week. The good news for snow lovers is that this cold snowy December pattern will return after Christmas with more snow and cold toward the New Year.
