WATERBURY — A man and woman were found dead inside a Cooke Street home on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Officers broke into one of the four apartments in the building at 258 Cooke St., at approximately 3 p.m., and found both victims dead inside, acting Deputy Chief Christopher Corbett said.

Police were not searching for any suspects on Thursday night, he said.

Police believe the two were boyfriend and girlfriend, Corbett said. Their names were not released Thursday night. The woman, who was a resident of the apartment, is believed to be in her 20s, and the man, who apparently was visiting, was in his 30s, Corbett said.

Police were called to the building after a concerned friend of the female victim contacted them, Corbett said.

A police forensic unit remained at the scene late into the night.

Autopsies will be performed on Friday to determine cause of death for each victim, said Corbett.
