Heartsick twins Emily and Lauren Hart, 9, got their Christmas wish Saturday a minute after telling a store Santa what they wanted: to see their brother, gone since May when he went off to Army boot camp in South Carolina.

Two women dressed in elf costumes wheeled a large box wrapped in gift paper in front of the two pigtailed girls and Santa, in a corner of Home Depot. The elves opened the box and out popped Private Tyler Hart, 18, who traveled from a Virginia base to surprise his family.

“They made noises but didn’t say anything at first,” Hart, 18, said of his astonished sisters when he stood up in full uniform out of the 4-foot-by-2-foot box.
