New Haven Police say they would like to speak with whoever left a series of notes in Arabic writing in the Westville section of New Haven.

Rahul Gandhi, owner of the Westville Quality Market, was the first to spot the notes.

He snapped a picture of the first note, which was placed under a single boot.

Later notes were accompanied by a sneaker or sandal.

Gandhi called police, and the department translated the notes.

“It was like Arabic letters, that’s why I was a little bit scared. That’s why I called the cops,” said Gandhi.

He called police after similar notes kept appearing around his neighborhood.

He was concerned because they were in bags and he thought they could contain something more than just notes.

“We’ve been worried about, like you know, the bomb and stuff like that, but then they found the sandal, the shoe and the letter. That’s why I’m not that worried about it anymore.”

Police quickly realized these were indeed, just notes, albeit strange notes.

The notes read:  “Blacks, whites lie,” “Chinese lie,” “Germans lie” and “British lie.”

Of course, the first note said “911.”

But police stress that this is no emergency and that no crime has been committed.

Gandhi thinks it’s just a bizarre prank.

“It is weird … but hey, what are you gonna do?” said Gandhi.
