The amount of snow we’re getting isn’t as big of a deal as the combination of snow, cold and gusty winds. Snow will pick up tonight, becoming moderate to heavy at times. 5″-10″ of light fluffy snow is likely by tomorrow am. But I think most people will end up with 5″-8″.
Snow will wind down around the time of the morning commute. But plows will need to catch up before the roads improve. This will be a tough storm to clean up with gusty winds, blowing and drifting of snow combines with cold temperatures. Friday morning will start off with wind chills -10 to -15! Some clearing is likely but sun will not help warm the air. In fact, temperatures will actually drop through the day. Sub zero, record breaking cold is forecast Friday night into Saturday morning.
Temperatures moderate this weekend briefly with highs returning to the 30s and the chance for rain (not snow!) Sunday night into early Monday.
