Norwalk Fire Injures Two

NORWALK — Two people were injured in a basement fire on South Main Street late Friday night, according to fire officials.

The fire was reported just after 11 p.m. at 204 South Main St. Responding fire officials found heavy fire visible through the basement windows and smoke throughout the house.

norwalk fire1Two injured occupants were found outside the rear of the home — a man who suffered burns to his face and hands, and a woman who suffered smoke inhalation. Both were taken to Norwalk Hospital. Their condition was unknown as of Saturday morning, fire officials said.

Five people were inside the house when the fire started, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control by approximately 11:20 p.m. and remained on scene until about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, ensuring the fire would not extend to the upper floors, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire, which started in a basement bedroom, is under investigation, fire officials said.
