Even in bitter weather, Visiting Nurse and Health Services of Connecticut prides itself on caring for the sick and elderly. Friday, when temperatures dipped into the teens and below, was no exception.
“Our patients live in their homes. Our average age of our patients is 78. So, our clinicians know they have to be seen. They cannot not be seen,” CEO Todd Rose said.
Friday afternoon, visiting nurse Anne Marona visited her fifth patient of the day.
“I love it. I love seeing the people in their environment, and I love the whole concept of keeping them in their house,” Marona said.
Marona sat with elderly patient Anna Paul, checking her blood pressure, medications and heartbeat.
“I don’t know what I’d do without the visiting nurse and whatnot. It keeps you from running to the doctors every 5 minutes, and that’s a problem getting there,” Paul said.
