ENFIELD — There will be a stepped-up police presence at a local middle school Thursday because of a photo posted on a PTO social media site.

Extra police officers will be at John F. Kennedy Middle School after people complained about the picture, which was posted to the school PTO’s Facebook page, police said.

The photo depicts the scope of a rifle, Chief Carl Sferrazza said. It wasn’t clear whether a written message was posted with the picture. The picture has since been removed.

Police received a few complaints about the photo, said Sgt. Larry Curtis. It ”made some people concerned,” he said.

Police want the community to know “we’re aware of it and we’re looking into it,” Curtis said.

The department posted a message on its Facebook page saying that police are “actively investigating.”
