East Haven Police are asking residents to be on the lookout for suspicious activity.

In the past 10 days at least five homes were burglarized. They all were the homes of people of Indian decent.

Harry Patel, owner of Paramount Package Store in New Haven, has dozens of photos of his home after it had been turned upside down by burglars.

“Somehow they’re watching us, who’s staying home, what time, how many cars are in the parking lot,” he said.

It was Tuesday, broad daylight. His family had arrived home from the airport.

When they walked inside, they saw the unthinkable: Drawers were pulled out, clothes and belongings everywhere.

“They searched my bathroom, my bedroom, all the furniture,” said Patel. “They took jewelry. They take my two sons’ piggy banks, some electronics.”

East Haven Police say all the crimes are similar in nature.

The suspects enter through the rear of the residence and leave with personal belongings of victims.

The suspects targeted homes on Leigh Drive, Henry Street, Saint Andrew Avenue, Bradley Street and Columbus Avenue.

“It’s very upsetting a certain race would be targeted,” said Harry Anastasio.

Anastasio lives on one of the streets the burglars sought out.

“It’s shocking. It really is. I feel really bad for them and, hopefully, they catch whoever is behind it.”

Patel said home no longer feels the same.

“My wife, my son, they’re not safe to live in East Haven. The cops have got to do something.”

Anyone with information regarding these burglaries is asked to contact police at 203-468-3820.
