VERNON — Police arrested the mother of a 3-month-old infant who was admitted to the hospital in December with life-threatening head injuries.

Amanda McGuire, 24, of 31 Hansen Dr., was charged Monday with first-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and second-degree false statement.

She is in custody with bail set at $250,000 pending her arraignment Tuesday at Superior Court in Rockville.

Her child was admitted to the intensive care unit at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center with a serious head injury on Dec. 11, 2013.

A lengthy investigation resulted in a warrant for McGuire’s arrest. Police say she initially lied to detectives.

Her child sustained a significant disability as a result of the head injury. The infant is in the temporary custody of the Department of Children and Families, police said.
