HEBRON – Grief counselors will be on hand at RHAM High School today after an 18-year-old student died in a car crash Wednesday morning.

Garrett Campen was driving to school alone about 9:30 a.m. when his Hyundai went out of control on the wet road and slammed into a tree.

RHAM Principal Scott Leslie remembered Campen as a “delightful young man who was well liked.”

“He’s the type of kid we’re proud to have in our community,” Leslie said.

The school has planned a vigil for Thursday, beginning at 9 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Campen is the second RHAM student to die in a car crash in the last six months. Paige Houston, 17, who was going into her senior year at the school, died Aug. 6 when the truck she was riding in went out of control on West Street and struck a large tree.
