HARTFORD — A 28-year-old man has been charged with murder in a fatal shooting on Sumner Street, the city’s first homicide of the year.

The suspect, Deranna Fletcher, is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder and criminal possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $2 million.

The victim, 33-year-old Mark McNickle, was shot several times in the rear lot of 85 Sumner St. on Jan. 15. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators followed leads and identified Fletcher as a suspect. He was found at 39 Buckland St. in Manchester early Thursday morning.

Also found in the apartment were 98 pounds of marijuana, nearly $40,000 cash, two firearms, ammunition and related evidence, police said.

Fletcher was arrested on drug charges by Manchester police. He was then released to Hartford police to face murder charges.

Manchester and East Hartford police and a regional SWAT team helped in the investigation, police said.
