Yankees shortstop and future first-ballot Hall of Famer Derek Jeter turned to Facebook on Wednesday to announce the 2014 season will be his last.

“The 2014 season will be my last year playing professional baseball,” Jeter wrote in a 15-paragraph letter posted to Facebook.

Jeter, the Yankees’ captain, will be playing in his 20th major-league season. He cited injuries as one of the reasons for his decision. He missed all but 17 games in 2013 because of various ailments.
