Gov. Dannel Malloy has yet to announce if he’ll run for re-election, but he’s doing a few key extended interviews that pundits say suggest he will.  Fox CT’s Laurie Perez and Al Terzi sat down with the governor Friday to talk about his agenda for this legislative session and beyond.

On the topic of his proposal to exempt half of teachers’ pension income from the state income tax over the next few years,  the governor says he has been thinking about the idea for years.   Critics says it’s a political ploy to court teachers’ votes.

“We’re one of only five states that tax teachers pensions the way we do in the state of Connecticut.  The true unfairness is teachers in Connecticut do not qualify to participate in social security.  If they had a social security pension, if you can call it that for a moment, they wouldn’t pay taxes on it, but because they have a teachers’ pension, they pay taxes on it.”

As for when or if he will announce a bid for re-election Malloy says he won’t make any announcement until after lawmakers are out of session, meaning not until at least May.

The full extended interview with the governor will be featured this Sunday on The Real Story, Sunday morning at 10.
