GROTON — Investigators are working to determine the cause of an overnight fire that destroyed a mobile home.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 208 G Street, in the High Rock Mobile Home Park, shortly after 1 a.m. and found the home fully involved, a fire department spokesman said.

Flames were “coming out of almost every window,” Fire Capt. Jeff Douchette said.

Two occupants were able to get out safely, but a firefighter sustained an ankle injury when he tried to open a frozen hydrant, he said. The injury is considered minor.

The American Red Cross is working to find temporary housing for the residents.

There was a delay getting water on the fire because there was no hydrant close by, Douchette said. Still, the fire was under control within about 20 minutes.

Most firefighters had cleared the scene by 5 a.m. Fire investigators remained on the scene at 7:30 a.m.
