James Redeker, commissioner of the state Department of Transportation, will be present at a forum hosted by the Connecticut Citizens Transportation Lobby in Fairfield tonight to hear the concerns of frustrated Metro-North riders.

In the past year, Metro-North commuters have seen two derailments, a botched maintenance job that shut the busy system down for days and a mistake that left 50 trains stranded in the bitter cold for more than an hour.

The forum in the Southport section of Fairfield will give frustrated passengers a chance to ask what went wrong. The meeting comes a day after Gov. Dannel P. Malloy met with Joseph Giulietti, the new president of Metro-North. After that meeting, Giulietti said the railroad planned to spend the next 100 days developing a plan to improve safety and costumer communication.

Tonight’s forum is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Pequot Library.
