Rain-soaked snow melted onto roads and re-froze, creating hazardous driving conditions Thursday morning.

Watch Angelica Spanos’ live report on road conditions in Torrington at 6:30 a.m.

Crashes were reported early Thursday on most major highways, including I-91 in Cromwell, Meriden, North Haven, Wallingford and Windsor, on Route 2 in Glastonbury, Route 15 in Fairfield, Stamford and New Canaan and on I-691, where a cab separated from a tractor trailer. Black ice caused many of the crashes and spinouts.

Many schools have delayed opening. Click here for a full list.

“Very slippery conditions on the roads this morning,” said FOX CT traffic reporter Maggie Slysz.

More melting will continue on Thursday as the temperature rises into the 40s, said FOX CT Meteorologist Joe Furey.
