HARTFORD – Police have released the identity of a woman who survived being shot in the head over the weekend.

Candace Strickland, 30, is doing well, Lt. Brian Foley said Tuesday. The angle of the bullet that penetrated her skull was such that it did not cause paralysis or life-threatening injuries, he said.

Police continue to investigate leads in the case, Foley said. The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. Sunday when Strickland was in a car on Adams Street. She was not a participant in the shootout, he said.

“She was not shooting a gun,” Foley said. “She was in a vehicle that was involved. She was an unintended target.”

Anyone with information that may be help investigators is asked to contact Hartford Crime Stoppers at 860-722-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.hartfordcrimestoppers.com.
