ENFIELD — A man charged with possession of gambling devices and maintaining a gambling premise pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.
Stephen Scott, 50, of Granby, Mass., the manager of The Mouse Pad Business Center & Tech Solutions at 483 Enfield St., turned himself in at the Hartford state police barracks on Feb. 13.
That business was one of two raided on Feb. 12 as part of a state police investigation into illegal gambling.
The Mouse Pad and the Bloomfield Business Center at 701 Park Ave. in Bloomfield advertised that they offer “Internet sweepstakes.” Patrons of The Mouse Pad would buy telephone calling cards or Internet time in order to partake in sweepstakes play, police said.
A St. Louis attorney specializing in gaming law who represented The Mouse Pad in 2012 before Enfield’s planning and zoning commission said the business had done nothing wrong. Attorney Carl Landolina represented Scott for Tuesday’s proceedings.
State police collected about 200 pieces of evidence in Enfield on Feb. 12.
Scott posted $5,000 bail and will appear in court on March 25 in Superior Court in Enfield.
