HAMDEN — Two or three people were injured and dozens were displaced in an overnight fire at an apartment building on Aspen Glen Drive, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to the 300 block of the Aspen Glen apartment complex shortly before midnight Monday. When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy flames coming from the second and third floors of the building, fire officials said.

“We had numerous tenants that we had to make sure were out of the building,” said Fire Chief David Berardesca.

About 25 to 30 people were displaced by the fire, and two or three who were injured while trying to get out of the burning building were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, fire officials said.

The American Red Cross is assisting those who have been displaced. Quinnipiac University has also offered assistance because several students live in the complex. Students are asked to contact the University Public Safety Department if they need help.

No other injuries were reported, but fire officials said the cold temperatures made battling the fire difficult.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
