HARTFORD — A rash of gunfire in the area of Garden and Capen Streets in recent weeks has prompted police and Mothers United Against Violence to host a vigil Thursday evening.

No one has been struck, but there is concern that someone will be.

“The shooting hasn’t happened yet, but we’re worried it’s going to happen soon,” Deputy Chief Brian Foley said on Twitter.

The vigil is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. at the corner of Capen and Garden Streets.

Rev. Henry Brown, of Mothers United Against Violence, said the vigil is also an anti-violence rally.

“We just want to let people know that we’re trying to empower them to stand up and end violence,” he said. “If you show people that you are willing to fight, then people will stand up and fight with you.”
