WEST HARTFORD — A man has been arrested in connection with a car crash that killed a 93-year-old woman last March, police said.
Jeffrey Schiavone, 38, was charged Thursday with negligent homicide and misconduct with a motor vehicle. He was held with bail set at $100,000.
According to police, Schiavone was the driver of the car that crossed the center lines on Fern Street and crashed into a car carrying 93-year-old Helen Mehlman on March 9, 2013.
Mehlman was severely injured in the crash and was taken to Hartford Hospital, where she died just over a week later.
Several other people were in the car at the time of the crash, but survived.
The accident was the first fatal crash on a West Hartford road since October 2009, according to police.
