CLINTON — A 17-year-old has been charged with first-degree manslaughter in the death of his 8-month old daughter last year.

The teen, whose name is being withheld because of his age, was arrested Wednesday and is being held with bail set at $750,000.

Police said officers were dispatched to the family’s home in March of last year because the baby was not breathing. She was air lifted to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she died after a few days.

Hospital staff told police the child’s injuries were consistent with “Shaken Baby Syndrome,” police said. The medical examiner’s office determined the girl died of blunt head trauma and ruled her death a homicide.

Investigators identified the baby’s father as a suspect. He left the state, but was ultimately found living with relatives in Columbia, South Carolina. He was apprehended in South Carolina and was extradited to Connecticut.
