A jury acquited a Waterbury woman in the death of her friend two years ago. The emotional case centered around a deadly crash on I-84 and which woman was behind the wheel.

Kaleigh Morgan, 23, is a free woman following the jury’s verdict Friday. She was acquitted of manslaughter, DUI and lying to police.

“I just want to go back to my normal life and never go back to court ever again,” said Morgan.

Troopers argued Morgan was behind the wheel when the car crashed head-on with an SUV on I-84 in 2012. Amanda Grenier, 21, was killed.

From the beginning Morgan told police she wasn’t driving the night of the crash, a statement she has never backed down from.

Morgan’s attorney, Martin Minnella, said there was a lack of credible evidence by State Police following the accident.

“The State Police were derelict in that they never tested any blood evidence in the vehicle. They never did an accident reconstruction,” said Minnella.

Despite the jury’s ruling Grenier’s grandmother, Dee King, still believes that Morgan is lying.

“I’m saddened. Obviously, I wanted the truth. I always wanted the truth. I feel in my heart that Kaleigh was driving the car,” said King.

“It hurts me that they don’t believe me. This isn’t a win win situation. We both lost somebody,” said Morgan.
