PLYMOUTH — An inmate work crew found a dismembered Shetland pony while collecting garbage along Route 262 on Wednesday afternoon, a police official said.
The crew, which was being supervised by the Department of Transportation, found the remains in five separate trash bags about 25 feet off the side of the road, said Assistant Chief Robert Wright.
“We’re not sure if it died of natural causes or it this was a case of animal abuse,” Wright said.
The DOT disposed of the remains.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Animal Control Officer Cesar Beiros as 860-589-7779.
