At the Hospital For Special Care in New Britain, a special guest addressed the crowd.

Cameron Clapp knows something about standing up for his cause.

Clapp is a triple-amputee who travels the country showcasing new technologies in prosthetic and driving home his can-do attitude.

27-year-old Clapp came to Connecticut from California to speak to doctors, therapists, and patients.

With the help of whats known as the “X3”, a prosthetic leg that runs by microprocessor, Clapp has learned to swim, surf and ski.

“I feel very lucky that things have worked out to not only speak to the medical community,”  Clapp said, “but to reach out to the youth community so they can prevent making tragic mistakes.”

Clapp’s narrowly escaped death after a he was hit by a train after a drunken night of partying a dozen years ago. “It’s a miracle I survived,” Clapp emphasized to a full audience at the Hospital for Special care.

Aside from speaking engagements, Clapp is training for a big race next month, he will run in the 5k race right before the Boston Marathon.

“He is quite the inspiration,” added Janet Connolly, the Sports and Community Programs Manager at the Hospital for Special Care.
