NEW BRITAIN — Police arrested a local man Saturday and charged him with murder in connection with a January homicide in an apartment on Spring Street.

Darren Davis, 48, of 85 Spring St. Apartment 410 was arrested on Arch Street Saturday after police obtained an arrest warrant for Davis that charged him with the murder of Veronica Skinzera, a 39-year-old woman who died from a stab wound in late January, police said.

Skinzera was found dead by officers who arrived at 85 Spring Street apartment 410 on Jan. 27 around 2 p.m. for a welfare check, police said. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said the death was a homicide, according to a news release from New Britain Police Department.

An investigation by the department had pointed to Davis as a suspect, police said.

Police said Davis and Skinzera had been living together in the apartment, which was leased by Davis, for about one month before she was killed. Police were told the two had a troubled relationship, the release said.

Davis is being held on $1 million bond and will appear on Monday in New Britain Superior Court.

The State’s Attorney’s Office, State Police Major Crimes Unit and State Police Forensic Lab assisted the New Britain Police Department with the case, police said.
