Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested In Southington

SOUTHINGTON — A 31-year-old man has been charged in an armed robbery last month at the Kaival Food Mart at 1123 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike.

Brett Downs, of Southington, faces a single count each of second-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny. He is in custody with bail set at $150,000. His case is pending at Superior Court in Bristol.

Police say Downs held up the store with a silver retractable carpet knife on Feb. 7. He allegedly took $180 from the register and ran from the business.

Downs was identified as a suspect through evidence seized during the investigation, police said.

Downs was held on a $100,000.00 dollar bond set the Bristol Superior Court. Downs is scheduled to appear in court on March 10, 2014.
