A Branford Police Officer is under investigation by his department for posting a controversial comment on Facebook.

Officer Joseph Peterson is accused of writing in part, “bang down your door and come for your gun,” in reference to non-compliance by some gun owners to Connecticut’s new gun law.

“We received a complaint about just shy of a week ago and the chief has launched an internal investigation into the statement,” Branford Police Captain Geoffrey Morgan said.

Branford gun owner, John Cinque, said the comment was broadly directed at him after a video from last Spring went viral. In the video, Cinque is seen telling lawmakers that he would not comply with the gun law requiring the registration of semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines. Non-compliance is a class D felony.

“Everything is under assault. The first amendment, second amendment, fourth amendment, the fifth amendment. And people in America and people in Connecticut have said no more,” Cinque told Fox Connecticut in an interview.

Cinque said that he has not registered his guns since the release of the video. He evoked the fifth amendment when asked if he brought the firearms out of State or turned them into law enforcement, as the law requires.
