The future of a fraternity and a sorority at the University Of Connecticut hangs in the balance.

UConn temporarily suspended the Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Kappa Kappa Gamma chapters while an investigation into alleged hazing goes on.

A sophomore, Hillary Holt, emailed Fox CT saying last week she and other pledges with Kappa were forced to perform silly acts at the S.A.E. house off-campus, and then drink excessively to the point that she passed out and wound up in the hospital.

National headquarters for both Kappa and S.A.E. said they have a zero tolerance policy for hazing, and they have launched their own investigations.

“They should know better in something like this, if this is true,” S.A.E. spokesman Brandon Weghorst said.  “S.A.E. apologizes to Ms. Holt for any hazing or ordeal that she may have been subjected to.”

If the hazing allegations turn out to be true, S.A.E. said brothers at UConn could be suspended from the fraternity, and at the very worst, the chapter at UConn could lose its charter.
