SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — A 35-year-old Springfield man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly crashing his car and running naked from the scene.

A police officer directing traffic saw Jose L. Monge, wearing only socks, run by in the area of Washburn Street and Plainfield Street.

Officer Derek Cook chased after Monge and called for backup. Monge was spotted wearing a pair of shorts, a light jacket and the socks.

He told police that had taken pain killers for shoulder pain and they made him crazy.

Monge was charged with disorderly conduct, indecent exposure, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and operating under the influence of drugs.

Witnesses to the car crash told police they saw Monge’s car doing “donuts” at the corner of West and Avocado Streets. The vehicle went out of control and crashed into a tractor trailer.

Witnesses said they saw Monge get out of the car, run around the intersection and take off his clothes before leaving the scene, police said.
