Residents and visitors will paint the city green Saturday, as streets fill with spectators for the 43rd annual Greater Hartford St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The parade will step off on Capitol Avenue near the state Capitol at 11 a.m. From there, marchers will turn left on Main Street, left on Asylum Street, left on Ford Street and finish near the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch.

The event will be held rain or shine.

Beverly Concannon, a longtime volunteer and supporter of the Irish American Home Society and its efforts, was named parade grand marshal, and Dr. Pauline Olsen of Malta House fame was chosen as person of the year.

At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, the city will close several streets, including: Capitol Avenue between Broad and Washington streets; Hungerford Street between Capitol Avenue and Russ Street; Oak Street between Capitol Avenue and Russ Street; Washington Street between Capitol Avenue and Buckingham Street; Trinity Street and the Capitol Avenue exit ramp from I-84 East.

At 10:40 a.m., several more roads will close: Capitol Avenue between Broad and Main streets; Main Street between Buckingham and Church streets; Asylum Street between Main and Spruce streets; and Ford Street.
