HARTFORD — Hartford police chased a car they initially believed was wanted in connection with a homicide investigation from the North End south to Hawthorn Street Wednesday afternoon.

Hartford police Deputy Chief Brian Foley said officers determined later that the car was not involved in a homcide, but said its driver may have run because there may have been narcotics in the car. Police also later determined the car had been stolen March 14 from Holyoke, Mass.

The chase began about 12:15 p.m. on Windsor Street where Hartford traffic division officers were doing routine speed enforcement, said Lt. Christopher Mefferd, head of the traffic division. Officer Mike Diana was on foot and motioned to the car to pull over, but it did not, Mefferd said. The car’s side mirror struck Diana as it passed, but he was not seriously injured, he said.

Police initially pursued the car for running from Diana, but then learned that it matched the description of a car wanted in connection with a homicide investigation, Mefferd said.
