The Connecticut woman who claims the state failed to protect her from a vicious chimpanzee attack should learn within a couple of weeks whether her lawsuit against the state can move on.

Charla Nash briefly testified before the legislature’s Judiciary Committee, appealing to lawmakers to draft a resolution to allow her to sue the state.

The General Assembly would have to vote on that resolution.

In June, the state claims commissioner denied her lawsuit request.

Nash lost her hands and needed a face transplant after Travis, a 200-pound chimp who belonged to a friend, attacked her five years ago.

After the four-hour hearing, Nash explained why she feels the state owes her, even though she repeatedly chose to visit a Stamford home where Travis lived.

“No idea anything was wrong,” Nash said. “Had I known, even if I knew something years ago, then it would have given me something to think about and to stay away.”

Nash said she looks forward to a hand transplant in the future.
